Varicosities may be present as smaller, but
nonprotruding blue veins and as "spider veins." While
these may or may not develop into severe health hazards,
they are often accompanied by mild to moderate
tenderness and sensations of burning and itching brought
on by long periods of sitting or standing.
Treatment
After evaluation by one of our physicians, a
personalized program of therapy incorporating one or a
combination of therapies will be designed specifically
for your needs. At times, those patients with
severe visible varicosities may require an ultrasound
vascular study to rule out deep veinous involvement.
Injection Sclerotherapy
This procedure is
utilized for the treatment of 'spider veins' and small to moderate varicose
veins. It usually requires between five and ten sessions to inject all affected
areas. Done in the office, a sclerosing solution is injected into the veins with
a very small gauge needle. The solution causes the vein to sclerose (close off)
and disappear. Blood normally passing through that vein will re-route itself,
usually through deeper circulation. Tolerated extremely well, most patients
report minimal to no discomfort. Pressure bandages are then applied and
worn for approximately 24 hours. Normal activities may be resumed with the
exception of strenuous exercise and anything which may wet the bandages.
Laser Therapy and Removal
The procedures made
readily available by having the latest state of the art equipment on the
premises make the removal of facial veins, spider veins, varicose veins, age
spots and dark spots truly convenient. Patients can usually resume normal
activity immediately since it is a virtually painless office procedure,
requiring no hospitalization.
